P.C.C.M. #63 Part 4 - Classifying Train VW-1 From Selkirk

Greetings followers of the Atlantic Pacific Railroad and the Penn Central Car Movements.

We continue P.C.C.M. #63 as there's action on PC Ralph's K.P. & W. and Sir John's N.Y.C.T.L.

PC Train VW-1 arrived in Rock Ridge with PC GP40 #3141 and #3111 as motive power. Once the power cuts away from the train, it's up to the crew in Rock Ridge Yard to take over. They'll need to break the train down, classify it, and have it ready for the crew the following day.

AP RS-1 #200 'Spirit Of Jay' will break down the train and start the classification

The caboose is the first car to take off the train. PC 5023 will be shoved on to track 1 - the Caboose Track

There are six coal cars from Hudson Coal that will be pulled off the train and staged on track 9. They'll be picked up by the AP switcher, based at R.M.O. Electric.it's sole purpose is to pick up coal cars from Rock Ridge or when dropped off and move them within the R.M.O. property.

Next set of cars are 5 covered hoppers that arrived from Pier 16 and will head over to Cargill. They'll be spotted on tracks 8 & 10 on the east side of  the classification yard. The PC engines will shove them on to those two tracks.

Next up on track 10 are the rest of the covered hoppers as well as the 2 sand cars from T&R Gravel. They'll head out with the Geeps when they're finished spotting the cars on the yard tracks.

Meanwhile, RS-1 #200 is pulling the rest of the box cars to be spotted on the west side of the classification tracks. This will make it easier when the local pulls them and heads out for the industries around Rock Ridge.

The work of breaking down the train and getting them sorted is really a 2 engine move, or more like a switcher and a pair of engines.  PC 3141/3111 will pick up the two cars with sand and head out to the engine terminal for servicing the engines as well as dropping off the cars loaded with sand for the terminal. They'll depart Rock Ridge as Extra 3141.

That's all for now. Check back tomorrow for the final part of P.C.C.M. 63 on the A.P.R.R. as the freight gets delivered to those fine industries around Rock Ridge.
