P.C.C.M. #96 Part 1 - Picking Up Freight For Delivery To Terminal Yard

Welcome to another Penn Central Car Movement! This is number 96 in the series and another three layout move with freight from John's New York Central Train Layout and
Ralph's Kins Port Division Railroad and my Atlantic Pacific Railroad.

My outbound will involve freight going to John's N.Y.C.T.L. I'll have some inbound freight cars coming from both railroads, according to manifests sent to the office at Rock Ridge Yard.

So let's head over to Rock Ridge Yard and see the what's going on today...!

Here's the usual yard motive power getting ready for the days work. A pair of AP MP15 engines with 1:87 Scale Kai (a new comer to the AP but not to railroads and engines) is in command of these engines.

Across the way, AP SW1500 #105 with 1:87 Scale engineer NJ John will handle the yard duties with Kai...

Today's jobs are listed as two outside the yard and one on the Rock Ridge Secondary. AP GP38-2 #303 with 1:87 Scale Dan and his trusty(?) conductor Stuart riding with him will work Freihofer Bakeries and Marcal Paper. They'll pick up an HRC Orange Box Car and a BAR Reefer that will head over to Ralph's Grocery. Next door at Marcal, is an EB Box car that was delivered to Marcal in an earlier PCCM and is returning empty to North Side Yard on the N.Y.C.T.L. In addition, they'll pick up 3 non-PCCM cars and bring them back to Rock Ridge Yard. They will be designated as AP Train RE-1...

AP GP38-2 #307 with 1:87 Scale engineer Matt will head over to Shapeless Steel to pick up some gondolas. A pair of enpty EB gondolas will head back to Gervais Pipe and a pair of PC gondolas have steel slabs for Mid Island Steel. They will be designated as AP Train RN-3...

AP #307 stops at CP South for final instructions. Tower Operator 1:87 Scale Rich gives him some final instructions and sends him out for his pick up.

The crew heads out of Rock Ridge Yard limits and they're off to work!

They arrive at Shapeless Steel and quickly pull out the 4 gondolas...

They train comes off the West Harold Secondary on to the Little Jamaica Secondary. Tower Operator 1:87 Scale Bob gives them the road...

Back over at Rock Ridge Yard, AP #303 gets ready to depart...

Another stop at CP South, and then they're off to the races...!

And he waits for the signal...

...And now departs...!

Train RE-1 checks with Bob and they start their work...

First pick up at Freihofer Bakeries..

Then the EB Box car at Marcal...

Along with some non-PCCM box cars...

Now the pickup of the other box cars.....

All ready to go, they depart the secondary as they'll head back to the yard...

Train RN-3 is cleared to enter the yard...

And both trains are back in the yard...

Meanwhile, AP Train RHRE-5 brings over some empty AP hoppers that will head over to T&R Gravel for more ballast. These cars will get dropped at Rock Ridge East Yard until the train is ready to depart. Then another crew will bring them over prior to departure. At the throttle is 1:87 Scale Steve...

Let's watch Steve drop these empties on track 2...

With the days work almost completed, AP 307 heads back to the AP's Richmond Hill Engine Terminal for servicing and fueling....

And then AP #303 heads out...

There's one more job to be drilled today, and that's over at Cargill. Three AP Covered hoppers and a Hostess covered hopper are filled with bleached flour that will head to Hostess Bakeries. Can't you just close your eyes and smell the fresh bread being baked...!

1:87 Scale JP will bring the 4 covered hoppers to the yard. He'll operate as AP Train RC-2...

JP drops the cars on A/D track "B" in the yard. Let's watch how he makes this move a breeze...

He's good...! And he's finished for the day....!

Now it's time for Kai and NJ John to quickly clear the alley and spot the cars in the yard...

They move 10 cars on one track and they're done!

We'll cut here for today. Tomorrow we'll pick up with the two more moves within Rock Ridge Yard at ShopRite and the newly opened PC Richard & Son Appliance Warehouse..

Make sure you check both John's New York Central Train Layout and Ralph's Kins Port Division  Railroad for the progress on their outbound trains to the railroads.

Thanks for reading!

Nice efficient work by several APRR crews to open this series! A number of photos of rolling stock caught my eye including the string of gons at Shapeless Steel and the long line of covered hoppers at Cargill that emphasize each industry's size, the neat Nestle cars and the Weyerhaeuser cars that I recall seeing a lot on the rails. Lots of orange equipment returns to the yard just when the dipped black EBRR adds a bit of contrast. Nicely done all around!

Nice work starting up your outbound portion of the virtual ops Sir Neal!!! As always I'm impressed by the AP crew and the motive power they use to get the job done smoothly and safely. It was nice to see EBRR boxcar 360279 coming back to it's home rails!! Speaking of which the EBRR 8163 and EBRR caboose looked great working in and around Rock Ridge!😉 I'm looking forward to Part 2!!!
