P.C.C.M. #91 Part 4 On The A.P.R.R. - Inbound Trains Arrive At Rock Ridge Yard

Welcome back to the Inbound portion of Penn Central Car Movement #91 on the A.P.R.R. This is a three layout move featuring two fantastic model railroad layouts - Sir John's N.Y.C.T.L. and PC Ralph's K.P.D.

It's an early morning at Rock Ridge Yard, and the crews are ready for 3 inbound trains. Two trains are coming from West Mill and the K.P.D. with 25 cars in 2 sections. The first train is a priority train loaded with 9 freight cars with various foods and supplies for ShopRite Food Warehouse. The second train is a manifest train with cars for various industries in and around Rock Ridge Yard. The third train is PC Extra 6510, who turned in Selkirk and picked up a covered hopper dropped off from Red Wing Milling on the N.Y.C.T.L. This train picked up a number on non-PCCM cars that needed to be brought to Rock Ridge for various industries. So here we go...!

Rock Ridge Yard has tracks that are dedicated for both inbound as well as outbound freight cars, plus 1 track that services American Hardware and ShopRite. This last track can be used if there's nothing going on at American Hardware...

All 3 AP MP15 switchers are ready for some action. AP #106 with 1:87 Engineer NJ John is ready and will oversee the other 2 engines as they move about the yard...

AP #105 is ready with 1:87 Engineer Norman in the cab. Norman doubles as the official APRR Photographer when he's not in an engine...

AP #107 is on A/D track 'C'  waiting to pull inbound cars off the engine. 1:87 Engineer Dan is ready to go!

Meanwhile, PC 7983 is waiting at West Harold for a signal to head to Little Jamaica and on to Rock Ridge Yard..

He has the approach...

PC 7983 heads out to Little Jamaica...

Over at Little Jamaica, they await the signal...

And head to Rock Ridge Yard...

Held at the yard limit. A radio call is in order!!

Now we know why..

At CP South, there's an outbound manifest train that's needs to pick up his freight in the yard and then head out...

Let's watch and hear the action at CP South...

PC 7983 is in the yard!!

Next inbound to Rock Ridge is PC Extra 6510 from Selkirk with a number of cars for Rock Ridge and the surrounding area. Also waiting is AP train WR-2 from Weehawken with freight from West Mill and the K.P.D....

PC Extra 6510 has the signal and heads east!

Meanwhile, PC engine 7983 leaves Rock Ridge Yard for servicing at the Richmond Hill Engine Terminal. Once serviced, they'll head over and tie down in Weehawken for future assignment...

Next into Rock Ridge is AP train WR-2... He waits for the signal...

And heads east!

WR-2 is on the move!

PC Extra 6510 will head into the yard as soon as the tower operator gives him the railroad..!

The crews start breaking down the train for ShopRite...

Dan is on the job!!

Now Extra 6510 can enter the yard...

PC Extra 6510 is in the yard..

Engines 6510/6517 will head to the AP engine terminal for servicing then on to Weehawken for assignment..

AP 107 is at it again breaking down the train and sorting it in the yard. He's being watched by NJ John, who knows Dan is 1:1 Sir Neal's nephew, so all eyes are on the young engineer...

First cut is a bunch of non-PCCM covered hoppers for the M&E Railroad in Morristown...

And six non-PCCM propane tank cars for Cargill. More about these later on...

The rest of the cars are spotted in the yard...

Now AP Train WR-2 can get into the yard... Dan will work this part of the train from the rear...

WR-2 is in the yard and pulls up and holds at CP Rock..

...While Dan pulls cars off the train and drops them on A/D track 'B'...

Dan pulls the caboose off the train and add it to the engines that will head to the engine terminal...

But not before he pulls more cars off the train! 16 freight cars were on that inbound...

Let's watch AP 107 break down part of the train..

Dan adds the caboose to the end of AP 2350/2340

And the engines head out to the engine terminal..

The moves are done and the crew ties down for the day...

We'll cut it here for today. Tomorrow we'll watch the crews build the local trains that service the industries in and around Rock Ridge Yard..

Don't forget to check out both Sir John's N.Y.C.T.L. and PC Ralph's K.P.D. railroads for their inbound freight that we shipped them!

P.C.C.M. #91 Part 3 On The A.P.R.R. - The Outbound Train Departs Rock Ridge Yard

Welcome back to the conclusion of the outbound portion of P.C.C.M. #91 on the A.P.R.R. The freight cars are ready to depart Rock Ridge Yard. All they need are engines and a crew...!

1:87 Scale Engineer NJ John will coordinate the outbound moves today. He'll be joined by GP38-2 #303 with Norman in the cab...

Cars are being pulled and lined up on the west ladder...

AP #106 with 1:87 Scale Engineer Dan working one end of this move...

Norman is in position...

Cars are added to the outbound...

We see a set of PC U23C engines are just at the end of the Rock Ridge Yard limits.

The crew is getting some direction from an APRR yard guy on the train. He'll depart the train once it has all of its freight...

The KP&W cut is added to the end of the train. So what's missing? A caboose!

Not to worry! PC SW1200 #9021 has brought over a caboose that was sitting in Weehawken. Since this train is a Penn Central Train not making a stop in Weehawken, they brought over the caboose...

They add the caboose to the end of the train...

And the engine parks itself on track 4 in the APRR yard. Why? To get some food at Eat At Ralph's Diner! Where else would you go!!

PC Extra 6510 is ready to head out..

He gets the yellow approach signal to head out...

Next stop West Mill!!

This concludes the outbound portion on the AP.R.R. Check back next week for the inbound portion on my railroad.

Remember to check out Sir John's NYCTL Railroad and PC Ralph's KPD Railroad for all of P.C.C.M. #91 movements!
