New Engines on the A.P.R.R.

July has been a busy month for the management of the A.P.R.R.

The railroad was in acquisition mode, and a number of new engines have been added.

Rivarossi, a subsidiary of Hornby, came out with a number of US engines. Their only diesel engine was a U25C. They came out a number of years ago, and upon searching the web, more like scouring Evilbay, I found a number of them at some great prices.

PC U25C 6510, 6513 & 6517 have been added to the roster. 6510 came equipped with DCC and sound. 6513 and 6517 were DCC ready, so a couple of decoders were installed and are now in service. These are sitting in staging awaiting assignments.

A friend of mine knew someone who did custom engine painting. I sent him pics of APRR 300 and asked if he was up to the challenge. Decals and paint were sent, along with two engines. I had a pair of Life-Like GP60 engines in another road, and since they had been sitting in the boxes never used, I figured these would be a great addition to the AP roster. A few weeks later, they came back to me. These engines, however, needed to be passed on to my senior electrical adviser here in NJ for some additional attention. The decoders for them needed to be installed a certain way, and the bulbs had to be replaced. He had them, and always steps up to help me out. Below is the newest member of the A.P.R.R., GP60 #601. #600 will be back to the engine terminal in about 10 days, as he was backed up, but wanted at least one for the operating session.

The paint job had a little weathering added to it, not too much, but everyone that saw it today loved the way it came out. Both engines will be put into consist and added to some type of freight train down the road.

If the guy is willing to paint more engines, I do have some other engines I can give him. We shall see....
