P.C.C.M. #80 Part 3 - The Inbound Begins

Welcome back to the continuation of our Penn Central Car Movements. We're on the inbound portion of P.C.C.M. #80 with Sir John's N.Y.C.T.L. and PC Ralph's Kings Port Division railroads who sent freight to the Weehawken Yard in NJ where the A.P.R.R. interchanges with the Penn Central.

The crew from Rock Ridge picked up the inbound from all three trains that were dispatched; two from Terminal Yard and one from West Mill. The train has departed Weehawken and is heading to Rock Ridge Freight yard.

AP 305 with 1:87 Engineer NJ John has stopped short of the yard limit as AP 105 with 1:87 Norman at the throttle is waiting for him on the adjacent track. Instructions from the tower operator at Little Jamaica want Extra 305 to drop the 5 Auto Parts Cars on Rock Ridge Inbound track #1 as AP 105 is going to drop them at another destination. It seems that Rock Ridge Freight Yard will be at near capacity due to the time of the year.

So where are these freight cars going to be stored?

Let's first take a look at the move to pull the cars away from AP 305...

Now that the cars are pulled off of AP 305, they can now proceed to Rock Ridge Freight Yard, with the 5 Auto Parts cars..

So where and why are those Auto Parts cars going to be stored? It seems 1:87 Sir Neal has 'acquired' some property near the freight yard and had the crew install 3 tracks, specifically to hold only Auto Parts box cars, regardless of size. We're talking 50' 60' and 86' Box cars. The Ford plant in Empire City sent cars to Ideal Auto Parts, as did the Ford Plants in Kentucky and Michigan. They need to go somewhere, right?

Take a look at the newly added storage tracks across from CP East, aptly named 'Rock Ridge East Storage Yard'.

Let's see the move to store these box cars...

With those Auto Parts Box cars stored, Ideal Auto Parts just picks up the phone, calls Rock Ridge Dispatch and loads will be pulled from Ideal and empties brought over. Genius!

Now we head back over to Rock Ridge Freight Yard as the Extra 305 is in the yard limits...

AP 100 with 1:87 Matt in the seat will work with AP 305 to have the train broken down and classified for the next day's crew, who will deliver the freight to the consignees...

AP 100 is off the west ladder on track 1.

AP 305 is off the east ladder on track 4.

Tomorrow is another day, and we'll see the crew of the A.P.R.R. get those goods delivered in a timely manner...as they should!

Don't forget to check out the inbound over at  Sir John's N.Y.C.T.L. and PC Ralph's Kings Port Division where the crews at West Mill and Terminal Yard will be doing what they do best... delivering the goods!

Thanks for reading!

Very nice start to the Inbound weekend Sir Neal!!! Extra 305 was an impressive train and the AP crew was again efficient in their train and car handling. The move to the new Rock Ridge East Storage Yard was a nice surprise and the added capacity is certainly needed as the Rock Ridge industries reach record levels of production! I liked that patched out freight car!😉 Well done, I'm looking forward to the next installment!
