P.C.C.M. # 100 On The A.P.R.R. Part 4 - Working The Rock Ridge Industrial Area

Welcome back to the continuation of Penn Central Car Movement #100 on the A.P.R.R.

Today's work will focus on the industries in the Rock Ridge Industrial Area (RRIA). This newly designated area was authorized for the addition of tracks to serve Rock Ridge Yard and to enhance rail traffic. A grant from the FRA, STB, NJ Developmental Authority and the APRR made this possible...

So what industries are in the Rock Ridge Industrial Area? Tropicana, Cargill, R.M.O. Electric, American Hardware, PC Richard & Son, ShopRite and Morton Salt comprise of the RRIA.

The yard crew for today consists of: NJ John as yardmaster, Dan in AP MP15 #105, Matt in AP MP15 #106/107, and JP will handle AP SW1500 #100

Dan jumps right in and pulls one of the KP&W box cars from the KPD for American Hardware. Three other box cars from the NYCTL will be spotted at the industry; a pair of EB 40' box cars and a PC50' box car...

Dan spots the cars. The loading dock is quite long, and the yard crew will have to position some of the cars once they're empty...

Next up are some reefers for ShopRite, but not before they pull the 4 PS-2 covered hopper from T&R Gravel loaded with sand for the Richmond Hill Engine Terminal...

Dan pulls the cars out as they'll be picked up with the crew from the engine terminal...

Matt grabs the pair of reefers as this move requires the crew to shove the cars from the north...

In the distance we see Matt working his way on to the track for ShopRite...

...And the cars are delivered...!

The next set of cars are from Speed Queen on the NYCTL with appliances for PC Richard & Son...

The Hi-Cube box cars are ready to be unloaded...

Back over at the yard limits, Dan drops the 4 covered hoppers as the engine terminal crew is on the way...

..And here they are! Norman has brought the Geep on loan from the Empire Belt RR up from the terminal to pick up the cars...

He's ready to go. All that he needs is the signal to proceed...

And he's off to the terminal...!

Norman heads past Little Jamaica tower with signals in his favor!!

Back over in the yard, the KPD sent down from Cavendish Foods the infamous Morton Sale covered hopper to be filled up for use in making some of their classic dishes....

Matt picks up the car from Dan to shove on to track 12, which is the home of the Morton Salt loading facility...

Matt has his work finished, but a few more moves still need to be made...

Dan pulls the pair of coal hoppers from the LV connection via the KPD for R.M.O. Electric. Coal is always in demand at the power plant, even though the warm weather is here...

Dan grabs the 3 PC covered hopper from the Pier 16 Silos on the NYCTL filled with grain for Cargill...

The cars are dropped on the west ladder as JP will come over and pick them up...

JP is ready to head out...

The signal at CP Industrial North has him holding, so a radio call over to NJ John is in order...

..And he's ready to move...

CP Rock has him cleared to pick up the cars in the yard...

He's ready to head back to the industrial track to drop off the cars...

His first stop is at R.M.O. Electric...

Cars are being spotted at the power plant...

And then at Cargill...

JP is back on the Cargill covered hopper lead and is finished with his work...

Dan and Matt have tied down their engines and they call it a day...

We'll hold it here for today. Tomorrow the crews will send out the local trains and deliver to the industries around Rock Ridge.

Make sure you follow the inbound freight on:

    Terminal Yard out...

Another well choreographed sequence with many moving trains!!! The AP guys know their stuff and their motto could be "On time a day early". They waste no time getting the PCCM cars out of Rock Ridge yard and to their consignees. I like the newly designated RRIA and look forward to seeing more PCCM action on these tracks.

Thanks for sending Norman out with the EBRR 8163 on Train RHET-99. The GP38-2 and EBRR caboose still look good as they toil away in New Jersey! Another excellent installment Sir Neal!!!!

Once again I am impressed by the number of industries near Rock Ridge Yard and how much car forwarding operational interest they provide. Several APRR locomotives are required to get the jobs done...and we are treated to a neat move by the Empire Belt locomotive as well! The Rock Ridge Industrial Ara is a cool concept!
