P.C.C.M. #89 Part 1 - Winter Time Means More Coal To The A.P.R.R.

Welcome to Penn Central Car Movement #89, a special two layout movement between Sir John's New York Central Layout and my Atlantic Pacific Railroad. There will be another special movement going on at the same time between Sir John's layout and PC Ralph's Kings Port Division Railroad. Make sure you check out both blogs!!

This time of the year brings out a special call for coal from Hudson Coal on the N.Y.C.T.L. R.M.O. Electric will have the A.P.R.R. send a dozen hoppers to Hudson Coal for loading and bring them back to the power plant. That supply should get them thru a good part of the winter....

AP SW1500 #100 is called to action today. 1:87 Scale JP handles this area, and will pull the cars from the power plant and shove them to Rock Ridge Yard...

JP will pull all 12 coal hoppers from the plant. Even though the plant will be empty, they still have a few days supply on hand, just in case the return train gets delayed...

This train has a mix of coal hoppers with various load capacities. That EL coal hopper can handle up to 100 tons of coal...

JP starts to build the train...

There'a mix of AP, EB, EL, Erie & HRC coal hoppers for this run....

Here we go.. the move to Rock Ridge Yard begins...

Let's watch the move to Rock Ridge Yard...

The cars are dropped and JP returns back to the tracks at R.M.O. Electric...

Over at the yard, 1:87 Scale NJ John is talking to 1:87 Scale Norman about the run to Weehawken.

NJ John is making sure the coal hoppers are coupled up to his engines. AP U28B #2360 and AP Dash 8 40B #2370 will make this run to Weehawken. At Weehawken, they'll hand the train off to the Penn Central crew..

A quick stop at South Tower for some train orders from 1:87 Scale Tower Operator Rich, and they'll head out...

A signal will be given to the crew by the Little Jamaica tower, and they'll be on their way...

The signal is yellow, and they'll head out...

Next stop... Weehawken!

Over at Weehawken Yard, Empire Belt Rail Road engine #8163 and caboose are ready to swap out the caboose come from Rock Ridge and replace it with a Penn Central caboose as the Penn Central crew will take the train to Hudson Coal..

The crew pulls the caboose..

The AP engines are cut from the train and will be replaced with PC GP40 #3175 for the run to Selkirk, and on to Terminal Yard on the N.Y.C.T.L...

Penn Central caboose #26403 is added to the coal train...

GP 40 #3175 is now in control of the train...

Next stop, Hudson Coal!!

Check back tomorrow for the return of the coal train to Rock Ridge Yard and R.M.O. Electric.

Don't forget to check out the other special Penn Central Car Movement posts on Sir John's N.Y.C.T.L. and PC Ralph's K.P.D. railroads!!

Empty hoppers are are the move from Rock Ridge to Terminal Yard and eventually to Hudson Coal! Nice handover from the APRR to the PC at Weehawken. I noticed the AP oil truck in front of Tropicana. That's a neat detail! I sure enjoy watching your signal system do its prototypical magic as trains roll under the signal bridge!
