P.C.C.M. #99 Part 6 On The A.P.R.R. - The Local Trains Head Out To Make Deliveries

Welcome back to the continuation of Penn Central Car Movement #99 on my railroad. Today the APRR crews will set out to deliver freight to the consignees in and around Rock Ridge. But first, we take a look at the Richmond Hill Engine Terminal where a trio of APRR GP38-2 engines will head over to Rock Ridge Yard...

On closer look, we see the PC engines that went to the engine terminal dropped off the ballast hopper cars. They'll be used when the upgrades are done on some track....

The PC GP40 engines are awaiting servicing at the engine terminal...

AP 303 has arrived at Rock Ridge and checks in with the yard crew. Running today's local is 1:87 Scale Engineer Kai. he's worked this local many times...

The outbound train is getting into position for departure...

The train is just about ready. All it needs is the caboose. Rumor has it that 1:87 Stuart is in there, making notes on how to properly run a local train...

The caboose is added...

Kai gets the clearance from CP South tower operator Rich...

A signal is needed at the yard limit..

And they depart for Shapeless Steel and C&P Restaurant Supply...

AP Train RC-303 departs Rock Ridge Yard...

Next train in is AP #307 which will work the industries on the east side of Rock Ridge includingIdealAuto Parts, Marcal Paper, and Freihofers Bakeries. Rumor has it that ever engineer that works the bakery gets a box of chocolate chip cookies. Sounds like a sweet deal to me!! So guess who grabbed this job when they heard that Freihofer gives away a box of cookies? You guessed it (maybe you didn't)! 1:87 Scale Norman. My take is photos won't happen when he's getting his box of cookies...

Matt is pulling the cars for the train...

Norman can't wait to get on the east side of town. However, he does have to wait for other traffic to clear..

Now Norman can head out....

We now turn our attention to Rock Ridge East Yard where the auto racks for the Ford Motor Co. in Mahwah, NJ are going to be delivered so that can load them up with autos. M&E Engineer 1:87 Scale Steve will make the move...

M&E Train 1819 departs Rock Ridge East Yard, thru West Harold Interlocking to The Ford Motor Co.

Now that most of the yard traffic is on it's way, another outbound local is being worked on. AP #300 will make its run to the Morrisville, PA yard to drop off some cars for destinations further south and east, including NAHX Corning car #90404 which will get delivered to Pennsylvania Glass & Sand....

A pair of freshly painted Bethlehem Steel Gondolas will head out on that train for Midvale Steel**  in Nicetown, PA which is just out of Philadelphia, PA...

AP 300 is ready to head out to Morrisville Yard. Clearance is needed, so they wait...

Let's go back to the east side of Rock Ridge. Ideal Auto Parts is getting their delivery...

Let's watch Norman in action. He knows what awaits at the end of these moves..

Now on to Freihofers.....

And of course, Norman's last delivery before he returns to the yard....

Norman is back in the yard with the outbound empties from his consignees, which will be held in the yard until needed....

We now turn our attention to Kai who is over at Shapeless Steel, dropping off a pair of gondolas from Gervais Steel in Empire City...

Then on to C&P Restaurant Supply..

Cars have to be pulled and of course, dropped off..

The moves are just about finished....

The train is re-assembled and Kai heads back to the yard...

He checks in with the tower operator..

...And he's routed on to track 11 to tie down. The night crew will work the train so the yard will be ready for the next day...

We'll cut it here for today. Tomorrow a couple of other moves will happen, so stay tuned for the conculsion of the inbound portion of PCCM #99 on my railroad.

Want to see where my out freight cars went? Then you need to check out Sir John's NYCTL Railroad and PC Ralph's KPD Railroad

    Terminal Yard out...

The APRR delivers!!! With both style and class the orange & black APRR locomotives and cabooses provide a good color contrast to the dip black PC power as they move the PCCM tonnage from Rock Ridge Yard to the local consignees. The M&E Auto Rack train was a treat to watch and I did so a few times!! KPRS guys once again on the spot when something new is happening. Nice to see they were able to watch from the tower. Midvale Steel history was a nice addition. Excellent work Sir Neal!! I'm looking forward to the next installment!!

The need to dispatch so many local trains emphasizes the size of the APRR and the number of rail served customers that help keep the line in business! While there is lots of work around Rock Ridge I also enjoy reading about the "off layout" connections with the M&E and the runs to places like Morrisville and Nicetown. These ops convey a sense that the APRR is connected to the rest of the nation by rail and interchange possibilities are endless. The premier auto rack run was very cool. Those long cars say "big time railroading"! Freihofer cookies! Oh, how I miss them! Nice work Rock Ridge!
