P.C.C.M. #112 Part 4 On The A.P.R.R. - The Inbound Trains Arrive At Rock Ridge Yard!

Welcome back to the inbound portion of Penn Central Car Movement #112. We're continuing with our three layout movement featuring John's New York Central Train Layout and Ralph's Kings Port Division Railroad along with my Atlantic Pacific Railroad...

1:87 AP Photographer Norman gives us a view of the yard. These photos help 1:87 Yardmaster NJ John
survey what needs to be done to prepare for a massive amount of trains!

Now that Norman and NJ John have a game plan, we have our first inbound train getting ready to approach Rock Ridge Yard...

Penn Central Extra 3240 with a pair GP40's leading the first manifest train  from Weehawken to Rock Ridge Yard...

West Harold Tower Operator Bill gives them the signal to start his approach to the yard...

A short time later, the PC crew arrives at the Rock Ridge Yard Limit...

Tower Operator at CP South Rich gives the crew the approach into Rock Ridge Yard via CP Rock, the northern end of the yard. Why is this important? It gives the yard crew better mobility to break down the train regardless of what ladder track they're on...

The crew powers down at CP Rock, the northern end of Rock Ridge Yard...

The PC crew cuts away from the train and moves out to CP South....

Meanwhile, 1:87 Kai and the yard crew are ready to break down this train...

Back over at West Harold Interlocking, Penn Central Extra 1675 awaits clearance to take the secondary track that leads to Rock Ridge East Yard...

Meanwhile, 1:87 Engineer Steve and his pair of M&E 425 engines will work to break down the auto parts cars that were dropped on the secondary track at West Harold...

Steve starts the shove to drop the cars in Rock Ridge East Yard...

Steve has the cars on Rock Ridge East Yard track 2 and needs to pull the caboose to give it back to the Extra 1675. Guess it's lunch time as nothings moving...

Back on the outbound yard limit track at Rock Ridge, PC train 3240 is ready to depart for Weehawken.

Penn Central Train 3240 Caboose Lite heads to Weehawken...

An right behind him is Penn Central 1675 caboose lite...

We now turn our attention back to West Harold Interlocking as Penn Central Extra 6510 with a pair of U25C engines await the signal...

And now they can proceed...

Extra 6510 on the move!!

One more move for the Penn Central 6510 crew...

The crew cuts away from the train as the M&E crew will take over...

Steve gets ready to work the yard as lunch is over!!

Steve pulls the caboose to give it back to the PC crew...

Rock Ridge East Yard has a variety of freight in the yard - Auto Parts cars for Ideal Auto Parts & Electronics as well as coal hoppers for R.M.O. Electric, ballast and sand hoppers for the AP's Richmond Hill Engine Terminal...

Steve drops the cars in the yard on track 3...

The PC crew will head out to Weehawken Yard for servicing once clearance is given to the crew...

Penn Central 651 caboose lite heads out to Weehawken for its next assignment...

We return once again to West Harold as Penn Central Extral3144 with 3 GP40 engines hauling another manifest train from Weehawken to Rock Ridge Yard...

The crew has the signal from tower operator Bill and is on the move...

PC Extra 3144 on the move to Rock Ridge Yard...!

A short time later, the crew arrives at the northern end of the yard. The crew checks in with NJ John so he can get them out quickly...

And quickly he does...!

Kai and his yard crew get to work on this manifest train...

Kai drops the caboose and they'll add it to 3144...

1:87 Engineer JP will shove the caboose on the end of 3144...

We'll cut it here for today. Tomorrow the AP crew will work on getting some cars moved to the Engine Terminal and the industries within Rock Ridge's Industrial Complex.

    Terminal Yard out!!!

A nice showcase of Penn Central motive power today clearing out the PCCM traffic from Weehawken and getting it to Rock Ridge! I enjoyed the high density of freight traffic that was kept moving thru the AP tracks thanks to the signals and towers. The AP and M&E crews had their hands full and will earn their pay as they get all of the PCCM cars moved to their respective destinations. Good stuff Sir Neal!!!!

    West Mill out.

Where are all of the orange locomotives!? Action at Rock Ridge mainly featuring Penn Central transfers was a treat for the PC fan as lots of forwarded traffic worked its way from Weehawken. Nice to see AP 106 & 107 provide a little bit of color along with the M&E units. Plenty of action to enjoy today!
