New York New Jersey Ops #2 Part 4 - Freight Arrives At Rock Ridge Yard

Welcome back to the continuation of our New York New Jersey Ops #2 virtual operations on Sir John's New York Central Train Layout and my Atlantic Pacific Railroad.

This week, we start the inbound portion of freight from the NYCTL as well as other destinations around the country...

We start today's inbound series at the heart of the APRR operations - Rock Ridge Yard!

Yardmaster NJ John has gathered the crew once again to go over today's jobs. Two trains are due to arrive - one from Terminal Yard on the NYCTL and another from Penn Central's Morrisville, PA Yard...

AP SW1500 #101 has Engineer Kai at the throttle. AP SW1000 #102 has Jim C. in the seat...

Penn Central Extra 6510 East has approached West Harold Interlocking awaiting the signal to head to Rock Ridge Yard...

Penn Central Extra 6510 East heads to Rock Ridge Yard...

PC Extra 6510 East has arrived at CP South and checks in with Tower Operator Rich T. Rich asks where are the covered hoppers? The crew told them they were dropped at Weehawken due to a brake line issue and will be coming up on another train tomorrow...

PC Extra 6510 East arrives at Rock Ridge Yard...

Now that 6510 is in the yard, NJ John has the yard crew do what they do best - break down the train and drop the cars on the arrival / departure tracks...

Kai gets into position to start working on the cars...

Kai and Jim start working on 6510...

Kai and Jim continue to work on 6510...

Kai adds the caboose back on the engines...

And departs the yard via CP Rock...

PC 6510/6517 await the signal to depart...

...and get the signal to head out...

Next stop - Weehawken Yard!

Meanwhile, Penn Central Extra 6513 from Morrisville, PA is being held outside of Little Jamaica Interlocking. He's a mainline train that needs to cross over at Little Jamaica in order to get on the tracks to Rock Ridge Yard. He calls the tower operator to find out why....

Here's why they had to wait. Penn Central has the Juice Train heading to Kearny, NJ. Since it's a priority train with perishables, they had the road!! The Penn Central ran a Juice Train from Bradenton, FL to Kearny, NJ. It had a maximum amount of cars on each train, usually 60 reefers. As the business grew, they added another section to Cincinnati, OH designated as OJT-2.

Here Penn Central Train OJT-1...

Now that the juice train has passed, Penn Central Extra 6513 get the signal to head over to Rock Ridge Yard...

Oh geez, another stop signal! You can hear that engineer grumbling under his breath...

The approach signal is up and he has to cross over so he arrives in Rock Ridge Yard via CP Rock. That's because of clearance issues with 86' auto parts cars arriving in the yard...

Tower Operator Rich T. watches 6513 roll by...

And arrives at CP Rock...

A quick drop of the cars and they head out to Weehawken Yard...

Next stop - Weehawken Yard!!

Kai and Jim have dropped the cars on the East Ladder as those tracks handle auto parts cars, regardless of 60' or 86' lengths. They'll get delivered to Ideal Auto Parts to be loaded for their next destination...

Kai has one more move to make and that's to drop the cars from Kellogg Co. in Lancaster, PA for ShopRite. Those will get dropped on West Ladder track 9 until they move the reefers from ShopRite...

And they're dropped on West Ladder track 9...

Kai and Jim have tied down in the yard as NJ John walks over to the guys and get some final details about today's job...

We'll cut it here for today. Tomorrow the yard crew will start building the trains to deliver freight to consignees in and around Rock Ridge Yard.

Don't forget to check out the inbound freight from Rock Ridge Yard to Terminal Yard on Sir John's New York Central Train Layout
