Welcome back everyone to the continuation of our NY-NJ Ops #3 with my Atlantic Pacific Railroad and Sir John's New York Central Train Layout...
So far, we've sent a couple of trains out to the East and to the West. Today we're going to send out another round of freight as there's more freight coming into Rock Ridge Yard.
Engineers Kai and Jim C. will be working various jobs in the yard today as the action will be happening at Rock Ridge Yard, Rock Ridge East Yard and the Rock Ridge Industrial Complex...
Penn Central U25C's 6510/6517 arrive at West Harold Interlocking. They're here to pick up a manifest train with auto racks, 86' Box cars and a couple of 50' Box cars - most of them for the Ford plant in Bedford, NY. The other non NY-NJ cars will head west to Wayne, MI for that Ford Plant...
The caboose is dropped on track 1 and they back up to grab one of the 86' box cars for Wayne, MI plant...
They're pulling 3 empty auto racks, the 50' box cars and a non NY-NJ 86' box car...
The crew picks up the caboose. Air brakes and connections are tested as Rock Ridge East Yardmaster Steve gives them the 'all clear' to head out...
Penn Central Extra 6510 gets some final orders from Tower Operator Bob...
Penn Central Extra 6510 departs for Selkirk, NY Yard. Here we go...!
Back over at Rock Ridge Yard, Penn Central U28C #6533 arrives at CP South to pick up a train of covered hoppers destined for Terminal Yard...
The AP yard crew, under the watchful eye of Yardmaster NJ John, prepare to work this next set of moves...
Kai pulls the Morton Salt covered hopper that will head to the Quaker Oats Plant...
The AP Richmond Hill Engine Terminal dropped off some empty PS-2 covered hoppers and empty ballast cars overnight. These empty cars will head to T&R Gravel...
Kai starts to build the outbound train. NJ John always blocks the outbound trains destined for Terminal Yard per their requests...
Kai positions the NYC caboose on to the rear of the train...
PC 6533 is now in position. However, more cars need to be pulled before these guys depart...
Kai adds the caboose as this part of the train will be shoved in the yard once those cars are pulled...
AP #110 with Engineer JP on board, directed by conductor Jim W. work on pulling 10 cars from Cargill. The Hostess car will head to Hostess in Bedford while the 10 AP, EB and PC cars will head to Pier 16 in Terminal Yard...
JP has these cars all pulled and will shove them back to Rock Ridge Yard. Once completed PC 6533 will shove back to get the entire string of cars...
Kai adds the caboose to the train. Part of the train is in the yard, the rest was shoved back from the Industrial track....
PC 6533 hooks up to the freight cars...
A stop at CP South for clearance to depart...
Once the signal is up, they'll depart as PC Extra 6533 to Terminal Yard via Maybrook, NY...
Next stop at Maybrook, NY will be for a crew change. Then off to Terminal Yard! Here we go...
Back over in Rock Ridge Yard, Tower Operator Rich sees EL GP35 #2570 arriving with a B&O GP 40 #3691 in consist. While this may be an unusual site to see, we figure the the B&O owes some time to the EL, or the EL needs motive power so they reached out to the B&O. We'll let you decide...
EL 2570 is greeted by Yardmaster NJ John. John tells them the empty coal hoppers are ready to be picked up. They'll bring these empties to the LV Coal Connection...
Engineer JP is at it again. He needs to pull the 12 empty coal hoppers from R.M.O. Electric for the EL crew...
Twelve empties for JP to pull? Piece of cake!!
JP brings them over to the yard...
...And heads back and ties down for the day...He hopes!!
Kai adds the caboose to the end of the train...
NJ John gives them the clearance to depart as his yard crew inspected the train...
Erie Lackawanna Extra 2570 readies to depart Rock Ridge Yard...
Next stop...Coal Country!!!
We'll cut it here for today. Tomorrow there's one more outbound train that needs to head out plus some inbound trains...

The APRR crew was firing on all cylinders (again!) today!! Great job moving the freight and meeting the cut off deadlines of the outbound trains. The B&O GP40 was a nice surprise in consist with the EL GP35. I spied a familiar Cargill Salt green covered hopper which I may have in my fleet. The Penn Central U-Boats earned their keep handling two outbound trains. Looking forward to Part 4!!!
