NY-NJ Ops #5 Part 1 - Freight Needs To Be Shipped And Received!

Welcome everyone to another NY-NJ Ops session, number 5 in our series of virtual ops between Sir John's amazing New York Central Train Layout and my Atlantic Pacific Railroad. Sir John and I make moves with like/similar cars to and from our railroads as well as bringing in freight to our railroads from other locations in our time period...

Today we start at the pulse of the APRR, Rock Ridge Yard. AP Yardmaster NJ John is on duty, along with engineers Kai, JP, Jim C and a crew of trusty yard workers...

Kai and Jim will start with the Rock Ridge Yard Job, which encompasses servicing industrial in Rock Ridge Yard as well as the Rock Ridge Industrial Complex. That complex serves Tropicana, Cargill and the R.M.O. Power Plant...

The guys pull 7 40' Hi-Cue Box Cars from PC Richard & Son. The AP & EB cars will get delivered to the PC Richard & Son Warehouse on Long Island. The NYC/PC/D&RGW Hi-Cubes will get delivered to Montgomery Ward Warehouse located at the Terminal Warehouse & Cold Storage. All Hi-Cubes are loaded with appliances...

The 7 cars are moved to A/D Track 'C'...

JP is over at Cargill pulling the NYC covered hopper loaded with flour for Stella D'Oro in Da Bronx, NY, as they don't say 'The Bronx'!!

JP drops the car at the yard and the guys add it to the cars on track 'C'...

JP ran back to Tropicana to pull the loaded car of Juice for Nassau Community College on Long Island. Normally, these moves are switched with the Tropicana switcher. However their engines are being serviced at the APRR Richmond Hill Engine Terminal, so JP will handle it. On another note, Sir Neal learned what to not eat and drink at their 'cafeteria' when attending classes. Good thing some fast food places were close by...

Kai grabs the pair of MP15 engines and heads on over to Marcal with some non NY-NJ cars and will pick up some cars, of which one is an LV Box Car with paper products for A&P Supermarkets (no relation to my Atlantic Pacific Railroad)...

Kai stops at CP South and checks in with tower operator Rich and then heads out...

A short time later, Kai arrives on the Little Jamaica Secondary. This area serves Ideal Auto Parts, Marcal, Freihofers Bakeries and Mike's Lumber. In order for Kai to pull the cars from Marcal, he needs to pull the cars at Freihofers, then pull the cars at Marcal, drop the inbound at Marcal and then spot the cars back at Freihofers. It's a common move and both industries are aware of what's involved...

Here's how the moves were made...

Kai is back at the yard and will drop the LV car that will head out to Terminal Yard. The AP Box Car is empty and will be placed in the yard for a future assignment...

Meanwhile, there's an AP train from Allentown, PA Yard to Rock Ridge Yard...

AP Extra 3018 has a string of non NY-NJ and NY-NJ Ops freight cars for the APRR and NYCTL Rich will route him in to the yard...

AP SD40-2 #3018 with engineer Steve W. checks in with Rich...

And arrives at CP Rock. NJ John gives Steve the rundown and the yard crew gets to work...

Jim spots the inbound cars and ties down in the yard...

That's all for today. Tomorrow we'll continue gathering freight that will be heading out to Terminal Yard in Empire City as well as other destinations from Rock Ridge.

Thanks for reading!!
