P.C.C.M. #63 Part 1 - Outbound On The A.P.R.R.

Greetings followers of the Atlantic Pacific Railroad and the Penn Central Car Movements!

P.C.C.M. #63 is another three layout move featuring two great Penn Central themed layouts. Sir John's New York Central Train Layout featuring the Empire Belt Railroad and PC Ralph's Kings Port Division Railroad featuring the Kings Port & Western Railroad. Both railroads have connections to the Penn Central.

The A.P.R.R. has connections to the PC at Weehawken, NJ to interchange all freight. If need be, the PC has given the AP trackage rights to Selkirk (obviously they need the money).

We're going to start P.C.C.M. #63 as the AP engine crews picks up the cars that will go to both railroads.

First pick up has AP RS-1 #200 picking up 3 gondolas at Shapeless Steel. Train RS-3 Shapeless Steel Turn, has the designation of the day. PC gondolas #576104 & #576123 have steel loads for Acme Auto Parts and EB gondola #509823 will head out empty to Amalgamated Container Co.on the KPD.

Train RS-3 will head back to the yard with 3 cars to be set off on the east classification tracks of Rock Ridge Yard. The yards been busy and Rock Ridge Tower Operator 1/87th Steve has cleared a number of tracks on the east ladder on two tracks for some small train runs, such as this one.

A clear signal at Little Jamaica gives him a clear run to Rock Ridge yard.

The crew backs into east ladder track 6 and will hold until the other crews start to come back to the yard. Then some set outs will begin.

Next pick up is a run over to C&P Restaurant Supply. Reefers are the order of the day and Ralph's Grocery Warehouse is the consignee on the N.Y.C.T.L. AP engine RS-1 #201 is on the C&P property pulling the 6 reefers off track 2. Track two inside is always the track for perishables going into or out of the warehouse. They'll head back to the yard as AP train RC-1 and will enter the yard thru the north end. With that may cars, and having the ability to enter the yard from either side, this will enable the crew to come in on the west ladder and shove back into one of the longer tracks. Track 9 can easily hold up to 8 reefers.

The crew is waiting for clearance to the north end of Rock Ridge Yard and to be aligned for the west side of the yard.

We're a go!

Meanwhile, APRR MP15 #105 picked up 3 PC RBL 5100 box cars from Mike's Lumber with shipping crates for IBM on the KPD. He's put them on a west ladder track in front of the EL Reefer. This car which destined for Ralph's Grocery is being forwarded to Terminal Warehouse & Cold Storage for now.

The crew gets another set of orders and is heading out as AP train RT-1 over to Three Amigos Warehouse to pick up 2 cars. The KP&W 15638 will head back to West Mill on the KPD for assignment. The NYC car is heading back to the yard awaiting assignment. In addition, the crew will pick up some box cars that were pulled off the other track at Three Amigos to make room for other cars. They were set out on the West Harold secondary and will return empty to Rock Ridge Yard.

They'll add the KP&W box car 15638 to the string of cars heading to the KPD. Blocking the cars for each railroad helps to make the breakdowns at Selkirk move faster, save time and hopefully increase revenue, which the PC always needs!

APRR engine RS-1 is out again, this time picking up BAR car 7574 from Freihofers Bakeries and will head to Terminal Warehouse & Cold Storage. Wonder what goodies lie inside this car? Hmm...

Before they head back to the yard, the crew picks up two APRR 86' box cars from Ideal Auto Parts that will head to the Ford Plant in Empire City. Two car loads and both 86' cars? One can only imagine what they're building up there!

The switcher drops off the cars on another east side ladder track. It really makes the job of building a train easier for the crews than to just drop them on anywhere without rhyme of reason. This was instilled into all crews by 1/87th Sir John of the APRR Senior Management Team.

That's all for part 1. Stay tuned tomorrow for part 2 as the AP crew assembles then train that will head to Weehawken for a crew change the up to Selkirk and beyond.

Don't forget to check out the other two layouts participating in this PCCM.

Both of these highly detailed layouts make our train movements very enjoyable and at times comical to read and watch.

Thanks for reading!

    Terminal Yard out...

Sir Neal, you've done it again! Another excellent installment documenting the virtual ops and the car movements on the APRR that will lead to their future interchange with the other two virtual ops layouts via Selkirk. A very enjoyable read and the photos were excellent. Nice job!

    PS Nice crane!

The APRR Senior Management Team has taught Rock Ridge crews well as they complete a lot of work to prepare for the train with cars for the KPD and N.Y.C.T.L. Lots of action going on with A.P.R.R. scheme railfans getting good looks at units 200, 201 ad 105. I like the backdrop photo in your first couple of pics and I noticed the cool crane as well! Nice start to the series as the A.P.R.R. gets it done!
